Redwood City Art Center provides a local venue where artists can come together to work, collaborate, and exhibit their art. Since its beginning in 1993, the Center has also offered to people of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds a supportive environment in which to explore the arts. Central to our community involvement is the belief that the arts are an exciting and essential part of the learning process, and that innate artistic talent is waiting to be developed in every person.
The Center's outreach objectives:
1. Present diverse year-round programs that enrich the cultural vitality of the area.
2. Develop future artists through exposure to the arts process and the work of professional artists and art educators.
Hero Project
How we define a hero is part of the inheritance we give to the next generation. For years, RCAC has worked in local schools to help students celebrate their heroes and explore through creative activity their own personal definitions of heroic character as opposed to those that the popular media provides. Starting in 2007, the Hero Project will focus on equipping and encouraging the Center's art students to become Hero Project ambassadors in their own schools and classrooms, extending the scope of the program to potentially hundreds of children in the Bay Area.
Art Class Scholarships
Through grants received by Redwood City Cultural Commission and Peninsula Community Foundation, RCAC is able to offer scholarships to people who show potential for art but need financial assistance.
Scholarships are awarded through organizations that work with youth, seniors, and persons who are on the margins of community life.
